Over the past many years, I've been working on a couple of different systems to make music using modular synthesis. In the past, I have found I often get "lost" in building tools that keep me from the creative act. In addition, in the computer world, a song can be infinitely expanded upon and refined. I turned to using live performance as a creative practice for music that encouraged the creative act while not allowing for these foibles.
This is the more elaborate of my systems. The system is "permanently" patch with cables to allow it to be turned on and used in a largely fixed configuration for perfromance. It features 4 synth voices with 4 drum voices, mixing with discreet reberb and delay. The system is designed around capturing and mixing trigger and note streams to create the different musical parts.
This system is designed around real time patching featuring many of my favorite modules to use. While I use it less often, it's got a very different workflow that leans into the main strengths of modular synthesis - patching, given that my other system has a fixed design ethos.
